CAMSIS: Summary information on file downloads
Page last edited: 30 Nov 2024
Our usual expectation is that users of the CAMSIS website will want to download one or more of our 'index files' (databases) which have CAMSIS scale scores on them for specific occupations (typically for a particular country and time period). Subsequent to download, we imagine this data is then linked to some other dataset (e.g. a social survey file), by a 'match-merge' operation at the level of occupational units.
On this page we list some tips for getting started with the many resources that are on the CAMSIS pages, plus include some direct links to selected popular tools.
- Useful links
- CAMSIS versions page: Almost all of the CAMSIS data files can be located at this page, by navigating to the particular country and time period of interest. Following this link, any available data ought to be indicated and when relevant available to download.
- CAMSIS resources at Github: Since Autumn 2024 a mirror copy of the CAMSIS resources has been maintained at Paul Lambert's github site. Most resources here are duplicates of those available on the CAMSIS webpages, though there are a few examples of information in the github area which is taken from another source. Some users might find the github archive easier to navigate (in some use cases, users might find the github 'raw' url for a resource a convenient locator, for instance to call upon it through a software tool without otherwise downloading the file).
- Accessing and using CAMSIS scale scores: The first paragraphs of our extended information on working with CAMSIS scales describe typical arrangements for linking CAMSIS index files against your own databases.
- GEODE website: Some other resources for working with occupation-based social classifications that have been generated by many of the same researchers as contributed to the CAMSIS project
- Other popular index files:
- Square matrix format of Harry Ganzeboom's ISCO-88 to ISEI conversions: .dta / .sav / .dat / (for citation instructions see 'Tools for deriving status measures')
- ISCO-88 value labels do file: do "http://www.camsis.stir.ac.uk/occunits/do_files/isco88_labels.do"
- CAMCOM conversion file for UK SOC90 ('Prandy codes'): zip / .dta / .txt / .sav
- UK SOC2020 to ICAM/ISEI/SIOPS linkage: .dta
