CAMSIS-Finland

We have been working on CAMSIS scale construction exercises for Finland in the period 2010-2011. A first set of scales were published in 2010, with further updates planned for the future.

Notes / version history:

We have recently derived several different scales for the contemporary period in Finland, using different software and statistical models as part of a comparative evaluation.

'Verion 1', presented in a conerence paper in September 2010, uses ISCO88 units plus employment status and is based upon a correspodence analysis algorithm in Stata. This version estimates different scores for men and women, and runs on a given number of occupational units which itself is derived as a part of the algorithm - so more units are used in more recent samples, when more cohabiting couples were avaialble for analysis).

We have also undertaken work on fitting association models in R, principally with the objective of generating margins of error alongside scale values. This estimation has used different levels of detail of occupational data and has other different features. We anticpate publishing these scales and results later in 2011.

Version 1 (generated September 2010)

(Based on ISCO-88 units plus simplified employment status, calculated using correspondence analysis using Stata)

Data Census Longitudinal Data Files from 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 (Statistics Finland)
Cases Approx 30k to 100k cohabiting both-working couples from each year ++ +
Occupational classification
ISCO88 (re-classified from Finnish national coding frames). Scores were estimated at approximately the 3-digit level of detail, cross-classified by employment status for occupations in major groups 6-9 only.
